Training Cancelled tonight

Hi folks, due to the storm coming in I am cancelling training tonight. While the school would be fine I would rather folk did not drive in the country lanes. Term will begin next week :-)

Weds Weave entries

Round the clock.....
When practising weave entries the best way to ensure your training is foolproof is to practice 'around the clock'.

This does not mean practising 24 hours a day (5 mins a day is enough); rather imagining a clock face and practicing entries from all times.

If you're practicing at home you can mark where you have practiced to with anything you can get your hands on. In class we tend to use small cones. It was a fun session :-)

Sunday Sunday...

Well, what a great 6 week's at training for the Sunday gang. Folk that are real beginners did amazingly well. Had a great understanding of channel weaves, tunnel and starting jump skills. The later classes have been working on focus and play as well as agility. All lovely to watch :-)

What makes them turn?

The green arrows demonstrate the handlers shoulder direction and direction of travel of the dog. Blue arrow demonstrates next direction. Dogs need both pieces of information to drive successfully around a course.

Weds Night Training

Tonight's training was as fabulous as ever. You folk are lovely and great with your dogs. Each pairing are very different and incredibly rewarding to watch progress. To top off the evening John had brought cakes to celebrate his win in the Grand Prix at the FAB show. Thanks John, Brenda and Granddaughter x

Scent Workshop

Fun Dog Agility are proud to be hosting a scent seminar afternoon for Caroline and James from Mind your Dog (www.mindyourdog.co.uk). The afternoon will consist of introductions and information about how dogs perceive the world, the importance of scents and types of scent work. Then the first practical part of the day we will do some fun and very simple scent games so people see how easy it is to do it at home. We then do a little more theory explaining how to introduce a scent and giving handling tips before going into the second practical part with the dogs. We will use rooibos (red tea) as the substance to detect for dogs.If we have a dog who takes longer to learn a scent, we can switch to using food. Celebrate your training successes!
A few picture examples from Miss Skye- happily practicing off lead (yay!) contacts on the seesaw (no worries about the noise it makes, focused on her "dead" toy at the end and generally a happy waggy girl). What positive, force free training is all about!
