Patience Paddy 2002 - 2010

Patience Paddy

We sadly had to have Paddy, Richard's Collie x put to sleep on Weds 2nd Dec. He suddenly become very lethargic and bloated, an x-ray and ultrasound showed a very weak heart, free fluid and multiple tumours in his abdomen. He only became unwell on Tues 1st where he did not run as much as usual on his daily walk, on Weds he did not run at all and only just managed his walk. This was not usual Paddy behaviour. We did not want to put him through any degrading treatments which he would not understand or recover from so all we could humanely do was end his suffering. Both Richard and I are devastated by the loss of Paddy and Jack keeps looking for him to come home. He will be sadly missed.

We adopted Paddy from Many Tears Rescue in 2004 when he was approximatley 2 years old. Richard and Paddy had an understanding between them which allowed them to work as an amazing team in the early days of obedience training and later in agility. Paddy reached the dizzy heights of Grade 6 where he competed this year at the shows we attended. The last competition course Paddy ran was under Marie Hembrow at Gillingham.

He was such a brave boy to hide his illness from us to the very end and we will be forever grateful to him for that.

End of the Show Season

Our summer shows finished this week at Southdowns show. Jack won his jumping class (only entered 1 class) and Jake was 3rd in the agility so a good day results wise. Unfortunately Jake has injured his shoulder again so we have been resting it all this week and holding our breath to see how it goes.

The FCI World Championships start tomorrow with free streaming of the event on Agilityvision if anyone has any free time to watch......

Also just came accross some brilliant videos of some runs at the KC festival - click here to watch them

That's what we aspire to!!!! Happy Training..........

Today....saturday training

A good session for all of the Fun Dog's today. We worked on turns in all classes, simple left and rights for the beginners and more complex box work for more experienced (Front crosses inside and outside a box). Good stuff. Jake dog walk practice was good, 6 repetitions at good speed. The treat and train was well away from contact area with me varying my position, walking and RUNNING alongside the equipment! Good boy!

Weds Practice at the Field

Well, we set up grids this morning and blasted through them to a toy. All good fun and hopefully helped Jake to remember where his feet are. After grid we worked on speed over the dog walk using the treat and train to reward remotely.

Young Lexie also worked her socks off for Angela - clever cocker spaniel!

This weekend

Jakey boy got 2nd places at Gillingham Show. One agility one jumping. We need to practice jumping grids at 5 paces though as he still rushes this distance. Lucy and Dash also did really well with 3 lovely rounds and a 3rd place in agility. Rich really enjoyed his jumping round with Paddy too. :-)

Walk the plank!

In order to pair up Jake's nose target and walking on the wobble board I need to ensure jake is comfortable with the board and knows to walk onto it from end to end.

Target Training Part One

Teaching a nose touch to a target

Target Training Part TWO

Clicker work preparation

Several piles of 10 treats in a pot, plenty of spares on the plate. Clicker and target at the ready!

Stand still Jack!

I started off this evening with step 1 of teaching Jack a visual cue for a sit. Sit is his current default behaviour so step one is to reward a new base position which is to be A stand in front of me. I was counting the length of time between clicks in my head to ensure each stage was rewarded.

Jake, Paddy and Jack

Our 3 boys a couple of years ago in the New Forest. They measure into the three Kennel Club height categories for agility .

On our holiday

Rich and jess getting wet and cold last week in West Wittering.

Perch Work

Today all 3 dogs did Perch work. Standing with 2 front feet on a small tub nd moving around clockwise and anticlockwise. All in aid of increasing rear end awareness. All did really well, even Jake who I thought would have trouble with this exercise.

Push the bus!
